In bed by 11.30 last night and despite waking up at around 6 this morning, I refused to budge until the alarm went off at 7.30 and dozed accordingly. It still took until my first cup of coffee in the office to make me feel properly awake. Too many nights’ sleep have been interrupted by the hot weather and early daylight and this has clearly left me with a kip deficit one night is not going to remedy all on its own. Still, it’s better than it was and if I turn in relatively early tonight and the temperatures remain at their currently subdued levels and…

Well, you get the picture.

It’s more humid in the Victoria area than it is up in Whetstone, but the temperatures here are well down on where they have been recently. The sky is grey and opaquely overcast and there is a cool wind blowing with a promise of rain in the air. Close to being the stereotypical English summer’s day in fact.

Marvellous.

Being comparatively rested, I find it hard to maintain my ire at the dipstick MP from the West Country and his stupid questions. He is nonetheless an idiot. Judging from his constituency and assuming he is a local lad, I would assume the stupidity is genetic and will have been passed down through at least two of his three grandfathers1. Still, we’re not far from starting recess, so he can go back home, sit on the fence and drink demijohns of green cider to wash down the hands full of raw oats he’ll be eating direct from the sack.

It ain’t only the Appalachians where you get duelling banjos, kids.

1These are the sorts of numbers you get with ancestors if inbreeding takes place, bless their little webbed fingers.
