Baking nicely
Friday, July 28th, 2006 12:48 amAfter last night's temperature horror, brought on at least in part by the power cut, The Tower now has, courtesy
ellefurtle, an additional fan. I expect that I shall benefit from it more than she since La Furtle's near legendary ability to fall sleep regardless of heat and humidity far outstrips mine as evidenced by last night's experience.
And what a fan it is. Three speed settings ranging from gale force 9 through rapid wind erosion to flay. It is on the latter setting now, and what with the old fan off to one side battling gamely away, there is decent air movement in the bedroom despite the stillness of the weather.
It's a fantastic chromium finish thing that would not look amiss perched upon Sam Spade's office desk during a New York heatwave in the late 1930s. For that matter, I could see it on the front of one of the more eccentric biplanes of the late 1920s.
For the record, it fully defrosted a completely frozen litre of water in under an hour. Yes, we tried that experiment. I think we'll just stick to the fan; getting up to change a thawed water bottle every 50 minutes or so during the night would be counter productive to good sleep, I feel.
Right, third wind has now passed and I am going to bed. For the first time in a while if this fan lives up to its billing and promise, I may have to wrestle back a chunk of duvet in the small wee hours.
