Friday, December 22nd, 2006 12:16 pmWe have a skeleton staff in today and of those the odd bone is already beginning to clear off early for Christmas.
I shall be doing likewise at some point early in the afternoon. It is a long time since I actually worked the last working day before Christmas and I am very much out of practice. There are three afternoon rush hours today and the trick is to get out of the office and make my way home during one of the lulls. The first, half-day rush for those who are finishing at lunchtime is already underway. There will be a lull in about 90 minutes or so for about an hour before the party rush starts. These are the people who left work at lunchtime and hit the pub. They are to be avoided at all costs. From four, the prolonged and final office rush will begin. This accounts for the mob that will be doing a full day more or less, but knocking off an hour early because it is Christmas. They will be augmented by the stragglers from the party rush.
Of course, traffic will be up all evening after that: the early Christmas revelry will start then and drag on until all hours. I plan to have been at home soaking up mulled wine with My GirlTM well before that happens.
