Cometh Winter

Bloody typical, isn’t it?

Tomorrow [livejournal.com profile] ellefurtle and I are going to see Richard Schiff perform the one-man play “Underneath the Lintel”. Quite apart from claggy lung issues, which we are hoping will clear so we can watch the play without hacking loudly every five minutes, the weather has decided to step in and twist the knife.

This morning there was a very hard frost on the ground and even now, just before 11 am it is still remarkably cold outside1. The weather forecast for Thursday is heavy snow2. I am not clear what the Met Office means by heavy snow in relation to London and the Home Counties, but we are all aware of the capacity of the country to grind to a halt in the face of a light talc dusting. If we are going to get something that can be measured in inches rather than millimetres, we will be stuffed – especially as Totteridge & Whetstone station is five stations beyond the end of the tunnel on the Northern Line, so that will inevitably grind to a halt.

Normally, I’d be looking forward to snow, but perhaps not this time. Annoyingly, it’s all set to be gone by Friday when the forecast is rain.

1I am talking UK, particularly south of England cold, so those of you who live out in the US Mid West and similar places feel free to imagine bikini weather.
