Hot Fuzz

We three residents of the Athenaeum Club nipped out to see Hot Fuzz tonight. It went down very well, though I think I enjoyed it rather more than [livejournal.com profile] colonel_maxim or [livejournal.com profile] ellefurtle. A slow few minutes about 2/3 of the way in before it all kicks off again, I found it better than Shaun of the Dead, though my compadres announced it "smile out loud" rather than laugh out loud.

Still, I enjoyed it and it will grace my DVD collection in due course.

Note the restrained way in which I avoided anything that looks even vaguely spoilerish?

Curse my rotten memory.

I have had an idea for a few weeks now that I could wrangle into an element in a story. I’m not actually writing a story at the moment, you understand, but I like to think that at anytime I could be struck by the need to rattle off something mightier and more resonant than a humble LJ entry. The feeling soon passes, but I do like to kid myself and running story elements around in my head is part of the process.

My annoyance this time is simply that I cannot remember where the idea came from. I’m not sure that it is an entirely original (read reasonably sure it’s someone else’s) idea and I don’t want to use it unless I am sure it’s mine or that the originator is happy for me to do so, if ever I can drag myself to the keyboard for anything like the sort of effort writing a story takes.

I mention it here, in my usual rambling fashion, simply because if I got the idea anywhere other than the deeper recesses of my febrile brain, it was probably from this forum. So, you ask, what is this thing that perturbs Our Hero so?

I shall tell you, but bear in mind that all this worry is for a throwaway joke in a story that may never be written.

I have in mind a character who compiles crosswords for a living, but who is absolutely awful at devising or solving anagrams. This is where her dyslexic friend enters the scene…
