Rural Sunday Roundup

Sunday morning in Shropshire where it hasn't been too bad by and large. The family sems to be behaving themselves. I am missing My GirlTM but will see her again tomorrow, so that's OK.

Little to report except to say that I was very entertained by Eurovision - the first one in a while I haven't watched in splendid isolation. I confess to being disappointed that the UK picked up points, though I have to thank the Irish and Maltese for being such sports. Since the advent of Trades Union Congress block voting from the former Soviet Bloc states, I doubt we will see many winners from the west in the next few years, which means that all western entrants should deliberately see who can get fewest points; a competition within a competition as it were.

I was gratified that Serbia won. As soon as I saw their entry, sung by Bud Abbot and Dr Evil's unholy Beatle wig bedecked daughter, surrounded by five Tuxedo and sash clad Amazons I knew we had a contender. And the siong itself was pure joy; not speaking Serbo-Croat, I assume that the title (inferred from the music) was "A Song to Assassinate Arch Dukes BY". Marvellous. A deserved winner if only because the Ukranian entry, sung by a spliced clone of Elton John and Su Pollard was a little too over the top.

The other highlight was the girl from Moldova. nice line in trousers that nearly fit, or rather fit where they touched.

Good to see that Glam Rock has hit Sweden after thirty years, too.

I thought Terry Wogan was a bit subdued this year, but hey, there was enough odd European frenzy to make up for him.

I'm off now to claim my place in front of the telly for the first leg of the Championship playoff semifinals between Wolves and the Baggies, live from Molineux. Normal service resumes sometime tomorrow when I get back to The Smoke.
