Matters Fiscal
Monday, June 11th, 2007 12:43 amI have calculated that after utility bills and other necessary payments, I have maybe £130 in disposable income left to me before payday. That's 19 days; £6.80 a day and that just means that I stay within my overdraft limit, not that I finish the month on zero funds.
I hate being poor. I tell you, brothers and sisters, come the revolution...
OK. So I'm not exactly poor in then great scheme of things, but I'm not massively well off either and to use an American colloquialism, it sucks big time. In fact it blows and sucks all at the same time1.
Having got over the disappointment of being awarded a credit limit that would insult a penguin on my M&S credit card, I activated it today and then attempted to transfer balances from elsewhere to take advantage of the cheaper rate. Of course, the M&S system, which is operated by HSBC Bank2 wasn't working; neither the telephone banking nor the web banking was properly operational, so now I have to try again. Probably a system administered by
romney. In the meantime I spent a seemingly endless portion of the afternoon trying to sort out other financial matters with only limited success. Oh well.
I think I shall have to buy next week's winning lottery card. Better not spend more than a fiver one of the days to make sure I have the spare cash.

2HSBC Bank: the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Bank: along with Lloyds TSB Bank, one of two corporations I know of off the top of my head that indulge in mindless and disappointing tautology in their corporate names.
