Yesterday [livejournal.com profile] colonel_maxim and I ventured up to Underhill to watch Barnet FC play a preseason friendly against Crystal Palace. It was their centenary anniversary match. Barnet lost 2-3 in what was a better match than you would have expected considering they only just fought off relegation to the Conference last season and Crystal Palace were contenders for promotion to the Premiership. Apparently, a hundred years ago, when the same two clubs played the inaugural game, Barnet won 1-0.

Centenary Strip
The team were playing in their centenary strip, a modernised version of the kit they used in 1907. At first I thought the colours a little dull - beige instead of amber stripes, but it grew on me and the lace up collar is a nice touch.

I haven't been to a live game at any level for a couple of years. In fact I think the last game I went to was also at Underhill, though I can't remember the opposition that day. Barnet won that one 2-0 in a brave fight against immediate relegation back to the Conference whence they had come as champions the season before.

I like a live game of footie and although I prefer to watch a team I have a vested interest in, Wolves or Shrewsbury Town. I think that in the new season I shall try to take in a couple of games at the Molineux and the New Meadow and keep a weather eye open for away games down here in London.
