Update

Well, the door is now secure, but it's only a temporary fix, I think. Even the work man thought we could do with a new one with stronger security. At least we can lock it when we go out now, which is good.

I have just come back after spending just under two hours at the Police Station reporting the attempted break in. That was inclusive of 40 minutes waiting in an empty lobby waiting for someone to deign to come to the front desk. Once I got into a description of what had, as far as we can estimate, happened, I was faced with a certain incredulity that something that had happened on Friday had not been reported until Friday afternoon. I couldn't think of an entertainingly plausible reason either, but pointed out that I had been out of the place between 9am Friday and 6.15pm yesterday. I need now to track down our elusive landlord and get his full name, address and phone number and have him call Colindale Police so that they can finish up the report.

Apparently he is the victim, not us. I was merely the informant (I hate that word, it makes me sound like an underworld snitch). Anyway, that will give him a reference number that he can quote to his insurance, so the installation of a nice new security door shouldn't cost him a great deal other than a little effort.
