Well, it took me a while, but I have located the environs (though I do not know the street) of [livejournal.com profile] telemeister's Groove Shack on Google Earth and I am gratified to see that Running Springs appears to be distant enough from the fires raging outside Sting et al's house in Malibu and elsewhere on the South Californian coast, to set my mind at ease.

No Californian Fried ex-Pat this week.

That said, I can't tell how far into the depths of Californie the place is; I get no sense of scale from the map based upon satellite photos you can zoom in on...

Another brisk autumn morning and very welcome it is, too. As mornings go, crisp, icy but sunny autumn ones are amongst the best.

I have to admit that I didn’t want to get up this morning. In fact neither Furtle nor I did. We both woke up with indigestion sometime around 4am. The take out curry clearly disagreed with us for once, which is unusual for the Bayleaf just down the High Road. It all tasted OK and no one was ill, but ooh, thank God for Remegel. The upshot is that having gone to bed later than intended because of my shenanigans with Google Earth and then waking up for a half hour or so, I am rather tired this morning.

I was a little late getting in to the office, but oddly enough not as late as I thought. Certainly there was no sign of Creepy Swedish Guy, who provides my most reliable measure of lateness. Now I come to think on it, I haven’t seen him for a while. I seem to recall that never having seen him in direct daylight that he might be a troll. Perhaps there is an unnervingly lifelike statue of a suited chap in the local park where he was caught by the sun?

We all like our certainties in life and it is perhaps not as odd as I first thought that I find myself wondering what has become of him. Maybe he’s retired. He was of the appearance that could put him anywhere between 50 and 70 years old (that’s 70 modern years old; 70 is the new 60, after all).

Oh well, back to the grind, I guess.

The BBC's endless fundraising for the ever-worthy Children in Need continues in November with the usual evening of suspended programming replaced with the dire annual telethon. Personally I'd pay money for them not to show it, but it is in a good cause I guess and we have loads of other channels...

One bright spot is the news that there will be a Doctor Who snippet written by the mighty Stephen Moffat, featuring Peter Davison and David Tennant as the fifth and tenth Doctors.

Twenty years on, the fifth Doctor's costume is a bit snug:
"It is an honour for me to be able to make the connection between the Fifth Doctor and the Tenth Doctor," noted Peter Davison. "However, now is not the time for sound-bites. I can feel the hand of history on my shoulder, even if I can't do the buttons up!"
