Saturday night, Sunday morning
Monday, November 12th, 2007 12:33 amA quiet weekend has passed here at The Athenaeum Club.
ellefurtle and I wandered into town yesterday principally to get out into the fresh air, but also to purchase more recordable CDs. That was mission accomplished, but somehow we managed to end up with three CDs, a DVD, one book, once comic, a pair of gloves and a purse too.
We spent much of the rest of the weekend indulging ourselves watching DVDs.
This next bit is as much a reminder for myself as anything else, as I suspect no-one on my readers list is bothered in the slightest.
I find that there is a problem with the suggestion that snus can be kept fresh by freezing it. Whilst this is undoubtedly true, no thought has been offered by those who recommend freezing, on how best to defrost the stuff. I have discovered that the typical carton of frozen snus ends up with very fetching ice crystals at one end of the carton. When these melt, the pouches on that side become inordinately soggy, while those on the other side are inordinately dry. I think in future that I shall simply keep them cooled in the fridge, not actually frozen. It's too much hassle.
Ah yes. I found a copy of the DVD of Invasion, the Patrick Troughton era Doctor Who story for £9 in er... well it used to be the Virgin Megastore on Oxford Street, but now it's something with a ghastly green logo announcing an immediately forgettable name. Anyway. One of the best early Doctor Who stories for £9 instead of the recommended retail price of an extortionate £19.99. Eight episodes long, parts one and four have long since been lost except for the audio track. Originally released in the 90s on VHS with a voiced résumé over stills, provided by Nicholas Courtney, the Beeb have now re-released it with the two missing episodes animated by Cosgrove Hall..
Fantastic; if you haven't seen it, you're missing out. I hope they take this approach where other stories have been lost.
