Round Up

I think that I'm the only person in the house going to work next week: [livejournal.com profile] ellefurtle definitely has the week off and I seem to recall that [livejournal.com profile] colonel_maxim does, too. Tomorrow I wander in to work hoping to get the determination out. Regardless of the Monster's arsing around, we are on increasingly thin ice according to our Legal Department.

But that's tomorrow.

The weekend has been nice and quiet with probably too much lounging around and watching telly than is strictly good for a body, but damn, I needed it. I hadn't realised just how wound up work has been getting me until late last week, so a couple of days doing pretty much nothing were welcome. we disappeared into Camden this afternoon for no other reason than I wanted to go to Mega City comic shopping. I dragged Furtle out and compensated by taking her into the Edinboro Castle on DeLancey Street for a pint of Kriek and a plate of chips. The weather was suitably chilly, but the cold rain waited until we left the pub and found that we were going to have to trek down to Mornington Crescent to get the tube since we were slap bang in the middle of the Sunday afternoon period when Camden Town is open for exit and interchange only. By crackey, but it was chilly. Chilly and damp. I am envious of those of you in the Midlands who registered significant (for England) falls of snow.

Snow in November? What is global warming playing at?

I am pretty sure that the remainder of the weekend was taken up in watching episodes of 24 season 1. I have season 2 on my PC and we need to drop it on to DVD at some point (along with so much other stuff clogging my 200gig storage drive).

Ah well. I have some recording to do while I dry off and then bed. I get a whole extra 10 minutes before the alarm in the morning as Furtle doesn't need to be woken up.

This morning, while half the country is nestled in a comforting blanket of snow1, it is raining stair rods in London and is much milder than yesterday. I can’t pretend that I wanted to drag my carcass out of bed, but eventually I did and here I am in the office.

In addition to the soggy trench coat, which is cheerfully dripping on the office floor, I dug out for the first time in many moons, my favourite fedora to keep the rain off. When it’s not windy or too mild, I like to wear a hat, but frankly, over the past 18 months or so there have been very few days when the weather hasn’t been just too warm or too windy to make the effort. Anyway, I wandered into work today looking like a cross between Sam Spade and an over indulged Indiana Jones. Texas Smith, perhaps. I would have said Alaska Smith, but I can’t use the biggest state in the Union when I know that there are larger examples of humanity out there; we’d have to start going continental and that would be plain rude.

1viz. Up to its ankles in slush.

Yes, yes, I know. The market it's aimed at is 35-40 years younger than Yours Truly, but nonetheless...

Airfix are releasing a kit of the TARDIS, the Doctor and Martha complete with paints etc. The TARDIS is around 24cm high, so I guess the Doctor would be around 16cm, so what's that? About 1/10 scale? The likenesses are quite remarkable; particularly the David Tennant.
