It's raining quite heavily again and there's a strong wind blowing up from somewhere. This is a sure fire way of telling that whatever we do in the evening, it won't involve watching TV that's actually being broadcast at the time. Sure enough, reception was lousy. Lousy to the point that Channel 5 was non existent on analogue and all digital channels were AWOL. This despite me investing £15 on a signal booster that will be straight back to Curry's on Monday lunchtime. What picture there was was better without it.
Having made dinner we then sat down and watched another episode of X-Files. Tonight's single episode helping was from mid-way through season 2: Endgame the conclusion to the two parter commencing with Colony and the first appearance of the alien bounty hunter and the hybrid clones. Good stuff.
On Monday happily, the reception had been much better and the copy of City of Vice I had taped was quite watchable, if rather grainy. I am a bit of a sucker for period drama and it was nice to see something a little different. Centered on the Bow Street Runners - the forerunners of the modern police, the programme is probably the only 18th century police procedural ever filmed...
I learnt a few things, too. Apparently the entire gamut of tastes was catered for at the time, from the "ten-guinea courtesan" to a "tuppenny upright", which I suspect is not a furnishing feature...
Nice too, to see the Emperor Palpatine back on our screens. Yes, Ian McDiarmid played Henry Fielding. It would have gone so much quicker had he used the Force or some other Jedi mind trick.
Hopefully reception will be good next Monday at 9pm for the next installment.
