It don't come easy

Bed shortly; it's been a frantic few days what with one thing and another and I shall almost be grateful to get back to work for a rest. This moving malarkey is not all it's cracked up to be, but still, less than a week from now we'll be in the new flat and that's all that matters.

I have arranged for BT to connect us with a new number from Thursday - there's no point giving the number out yet as they won't give me definitive confirmation that the number I've had reserved is the number I'll end up with.

Hmm.

Now, broadband.

It seems that for reasons beyond my ken, that it may take up to ten days to transfer the broadband connection. What I had hoped in my naivety, was that I could have it switched from this number on Monday night and it would be up and running on Tuesday morning. Same exchange, same provider, flick a switch thinks I. It may, as usual, not be that simple. I find also, that there may be a £40 charge to move the number, though if I agree to stay for 12 months, they may graciously waive said fee.

I know these companies are out there to make money, but frankly they're all taking the piss. Anyway, I can't arrange anything until BT confirm the number.

How slow it is, this digital age in which we live.

I may have to resort to taking my lap top down to the pub to take advantage of their wireless connection. If evening posts are less erudite and more poorly spelt than usual after the move for a few days, you know what's happened.

In other news, being unavoidably detained over the weekend, I was unable to make The Great International Telectroscope Wave 2008.

It is gratifying, however, to see that my pith helmet, waistcoat and two of my frock coats did make the trip and it appears that a splendid time was had by all.

Cooler today, so far –except, of course, on the Tube, where it swelters undisturbed by the wider environment – it is cooler because no shifting and packing can be done during the day as we are back at work and the Karma Pixies are having their play. Tonight there will be more desultory packing, with further items lugged across to the flat. Soon we will have to come to the question of BOOKs they being probably the largest population of similar items to be boxed, followed in order of magnitude by CDs and DVDs (there is room form debate on this: the quantum of CDs is the greater of the two, but the DVDs in various package styles are individually larger).

As much as it goes against the grain, I may have to downsize my library again, even if only by a token amount. The history and otherwise factual books are sacrosanct, but some novels may find their way to the charity shops. I never ditched a book in over 20 years and now I am looking to do it again for the second time in 4 years.

O tempora! O Mores!

If anyone wants that armour I mentioned a while back, you have until Sunday evening before it gets binned. It would be a shame to just chuck it, given the number of role-players on my friends list, but we don’t want it/can’t use it, so for the final time of asking...?

Last night I tried the Mary Poppins approach to tidying and packing by snapping my fingers: it doesn’t work. Hard as it may be to believe, Disney have lied to us. It’s true.
