Just Being Grumpy

I don’t want to be here today. I think that I shall take the opportunity to go home relatively early tonight. I am tired, though that is largely my own fault and hot, which isn’t. I have a slight headache behind my right eye again. I don’t get headaches very often, but this one has appeared on and off over the past few days. I think it may be a little bit of eyestrain. I try to remember to wear my glasses at work when I am using the computer (which is most of the time), but undo all those efforts when I get home and leave them in my bag while I cheerfully arse around on my own PC for hours on end.

In addition to the tiredness and headache, I feel a little congested, too. All of it is low-level stuff, meaning I feel crotchety rather than ill. I have so far, I think, successfully evaded Furtle’s sore throat and generally undeveloped cold, though I suspect I may be enjoying the onset of something similar, though without the throat problem¹.

I think half term will be on us soon. That will be nice. Every school in London seems to be arranging field trips into the city about now. Fair enough, but I don’t have the mental resources on my journey in to cope with a carriage full of chattering, fidgeting, pre-pubescent nostril miners. It makes me grumpy when combined with properly developed crotchety.


¹I find myself wondering whether the snus has anything to do with my ability to fend off the sore throat. I have a splendid immune system; not quite a Furtle immune system, but pretty good, nonetheless, but while I am displaying minor cold-like symptoms, the sore throat is happily absent. A Swedish friend of mine suggested that snus is mildly antiseptic and I wonder if this is true and it is clocking the streps before they can get hold. Hope so.
