Well, that's that then, I guess, for another year. Tomorrow we are back to work after the extended Christmas-New Year break and it is business as usual. I do not want to go. I have got used to the time to myself and long lie-ins; that sort of thing. Oh well, I guess it would get boring after a while.

This afternoon we have expunged the remaining traces of Christmas from The Carpathia: the tree and lights have come down as have the Christmas cards; everything is safely stowed away for another twelve months.

Of course, packing up the tree and decorations meant a bit of cleaning, too. Then that led to the thought that maybe we should move Furtle's new iPod dock to the other end of the sitting room. So it is that jobs snowball. Books had to be shifted to make room. The TV had to be moved so we could change the arrangement of the cables and extensions, since the new resting place of this music system is nowhere near a power socket. Having done that, we had to hoover the living room because despite being a synthetic tree, it had left bits of glitter and tinsel everywhere. Having done that we had to put the books back, but not in any order, for this was an opportunity to further refine the categories. That took some time and, as ever, is still not fully complete, though it is done for now. Next up was the search for an extension plug to plug into the extension lead. Having moved them all to the other side of the TV (which long time reader that you are, you will recall weighs a measly 92kg and is therefore a cinch to shift), we realised that there were not enough available sockets in the new arrangement for the music system, the TV and its accoutrements plus the lava lamp.

Anyway. It's done now and we celebrated by eating a toasted muffin with cold sossidge, ketchup and American mustard, while listening to a random selection of music from Furtle's iPod.

In a few minutes we will venture out into the chill January afternoon and visit Waitrose. We intend to acquire the fixings for an as yet indeterminate lardy repast tonight before we cut right back from tomorrow morning in the latest phase of our on-off attempts to take our belts in a couple of notches.
