At only one week to the day (though a few hors early) since I bought it, I have installed the new router and I have to say that unlike most computer-related upgrades, it has gone fine.
So far.
To be on the safe side, I noted all the settings for the old router and ensured the internal webpage was properly book marked so I can go back to it all if I need to, but following the quick installation guide on this new one was, dare I say it, a cinch. It's about 1/3 the size of the old one, inherited from Ser Taylor, quondam inhabitant of the Athenaeum Club and I've just clocked a download speed of 4.5megabytes, which for a Sunday lunchtime isn't bad. I'll try it again when everyone's gone to bed, just to see what I get then. I'm too far from the exchange and at the end of too many knackered old copper wires to get anything near the max 10meg my ISP boasts, but if I can keep it in the 4-5 meg area, I'll be happy enough.

The next area to test are the bit torrents. There's nothing I want to torrent right now, but there should be tomorrow morning. At that point I shall be able to tell whether or not I need to start tinklering with various ports to get the bit rate up to what I'm used to.
In the meantime, I have a software CD that appears to be completely extraneous to my needs. I guess it would be useful if I was running a non-standard OS, but otherwise...
