caddyman: (Bloody Tech 2)
Good God. It's Wednesday; how did that happen?

Furtle has gone to work leaving me to keep an eye on the Warcrack update she started downloading.

Why is there no equivalent for data downloads of Asimov's three laws of robotics? I suggest Lea's three laws of downloading:

1) All critical downloads will take ten minutes longer than the time available for the download. Unless:
2) If you have an entire day to download fewer than 100 megabytes, the server will hang and will not come online until rule 1) can apply. Unless:
3) If a critical patch takes only the time, or less, to download that is available, it will inevitably be corrupted and require a second attempt, to which rule 1) will apply.

Refinements to these three rules may be made from time to time.

From the Motherland

See me, the Russian Magnet!

I wonder if either of [livejournal.com profile] w_pole_jagoda, or [livejournal.com profile] zwezdabloshek can even speak English, much less say, "hello".

What are the bets that neither of them is real?

Ashes to Ashes

The back page of today’s Times carries an article about preparations for the fourth Ashes test scheduled to start at Headingley on (I think) Friday.

Over the past few years, Headingley has developed a bit of a reputation, particularly in the West Stand, for loutish and drunken behaviour. Officials at the ground have increased security ahead of the match to try and crack down on the disruptive and usually drunken element. Last year, when England played South Africa at the ground, 81 people had to be ejected and this hardly fits in with the image cricket likes to promote for itself.

The article is here

The best bit is the quote from Yorkshire County Cricket Club’s chief executive:
“The reputation that Headingley has got has been built up over many years,” Stewart Regan, the Yorkshire chief executive, said yesterday. “The West Stand has a reputation as a party area and we’ve got to break that. We’ve put together a series of measures to ensure that those people who want to watch the cricket are not disrupted by those who are simply there to have a good time.”

The italics are mine; am I the only one who thinks that’s marvellous?
