Lazy Day

I am having a lazy day today. Well, we both are. It's been quite a stressful week: Monday I was under the weather, Tuesday through Thursday at work was relentless and yesterday was [livejournal.com profile] lapinenoireuk's funeral in Thornton Heath.

The funeral went as well as these things can. I believe that there were a couple of hundred people at the church. I elected not to attend a Catholic Mass; my hypocrisy only stretches so far and went directly to the shorter service at the crematorium. Afterwards we met up in the church hall for a cup of tea and a bite to eat, where some of those who had attended in the opposite rotation to me - went to mass, missed the crematorium - arrived.

After securing a lift back into town with [livejournal.com profile] motorpickle And Chris sans LJ I pootled around for a while before wandering down to Marsham Street to meet to meet [livejournal.com profile] ellefurtle at 16:00 as she decamped from the office early at the end of her third week in the new job. Then we made our way to London Bridge to find the Old King's Head for John's Wake. We knew we would be about an hour and a half early, but thought we could get some food before everyone arrived.

It's not that sort of pub. It is very much a cheap, working pub with a single room downstairs. We decamped then, to the Southwark Tavern across Borough High Street and ate there instead, washing down the food with some excellent, if rather expensive Fruli a strawberry beer from the continent (probably Belgium).

We weren't sure that we would be staying late at the Old King's Head, but it turned out that there is a function room upstairs that had been reserved for the Wake and once it started filling up with people we had a good time catching up with people we don't bump into so often. Pity it took funeral to get everyone together.

We finally left around 11:20 as it was thinning out and got the Tube home just ahead of the drunks being ejected from all the other city watering houses.

Being tired from the events of the week, we have elected to do as little as possible over the weekend, though expect I shall have to mop the kitchen floor tomorrow. We need servants.
