Er, excuse me...

Those of you who know me will realise that I'm not one to grumble [/fibber], but sometimes you just have to have a moan, even if it's only a small one and you are really rather amused by it.

Today in HMV on Oxford Street I bought a CD of Symphony No.6, Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis and The Lark Ascending by Ralph Vaughan Williams, performed by the BBC Symphony Orchestra conducted by Sir Andrew Davis. A snip at only £6 and as ellefurtle observed, it should be a competent performance at the very least.

Sadly, 'competence' is not quite the word I would use for iTunes. I copying the CD to add to my iPod, it suggests a genre for you, to help cataloguing.

Ralph Vaughan Williams' music is perhaps, many things, but "Alternative & Punk" it ain't.

Making a spectacle

It’s a good thing that I don’t have to wear glasses for anything more than working with computers or a spot of reading where the light levels are low.

This morning I was in a meeting and for just a moment I thought that I was having some sort of sight spasm. Firstly things generally looked slightly more diffuse than they should have and I was experiencing an odd refractive effect that got worse when I moved my head. I felt okay, but it was a little disorienting. For just a moment I was worried that there was a problem with my eyes.

Then I realised that the left lens had dropped out of the frames and since my left eye is weaker than my right, the effect was quite pronounced.

Happily the lens was in my glasses case with the polishing rag and I simply had to snap it back into place (after about four attempts). I must remember to take more care when Giles-ing my specs in future; the glass isn’t held as snugly by the frames as I had thought.
