Last Night

I have eschewed the use of my own cup, which only takes the smallest size and nipped down and splashed out on a Massimo Latté from the Costa Coffee franchise downstairs. For the fifth day out of five this week, I wanted to stay in bed this morning, so the additional caffeine seemed necessary. I don’t know if it is my sleep deprived mind making me think such nonsense1, but does it seem to anyone else that Massimo Latté sounds like an Italian Formula 1 driver? Surely now I’ve mentioned it, you agree? No?

So who won last night’s Leaders’ Debate on telly? We missed it by the simple ruse of going to the pub and doing very badly indeed at the quiz. For once, I found that my life was lacking because I do not follow the love lives of Z list ‘celebrities’, don’t keep up with the world of professional darts and did not track the life time of children’s TV programmes between 1955 and 19862.

Anyway, according to the various news sites and newspapers, they all won it, or none of them did, depending upon the particular preference of the publisher. Everyone agrees that Golden Gordon did somewhat better than last week and that both he and Dave did Cleggy the honour of trying to take him to pieces as they now realise that someone might vote for him after all.

All I know is that whatever his qualities -perceived or real- Golden Gordon is right out of his element in these debates. He always comes across as slightly annoyed that he is not being allowed to just get on with the job while we all have lovely lives elsewhere. I am happy to believe that amongst family, friends or close colleagues, he can produce a warm, friendly smile, but talking to interviewers or taking part in TV debates etc, he just smiles like a Bond villain with nasty piles. He should buy a white cat for these events.

1I very much doubt it; my life is made up of a long sequence of nonsense thoughts.

2Turns out it was Crackerjack. Who knew it lasted that long? I lost interest after Peter Glaze retired. Actually I lost interest after I turned 11.
