Last night I left the office absolutely convinced that I was developing a cold. My eyes felt like sandpaper, my throat was beginning to feel croaky and I was more than halfway to becoming a snot monster and sneezing like a professional.

Of course, the fresh air outside the office helped as it always does, but my eyes still ached later on in the evening.

Well, this morning I woke up feeling fine. My breathing was clear, my eyes and throat were fine.

Now I am back in the office and I’ve started sneezing again. My nose is beginning to stream and though my eyes and throat are okay so far, I suspect that I shall be a-croak by the end of the day. It is far too hot in here and there is no air movement. They were supposed to be cutting the heating, but instead it seems to have been turned up to levels that were fine during the freeze, but too tropical now it’s gone mild.

I think I am allergic to this place.

It is as I feared. I am allergic to afternoons in the office – or at least it takes until then for my defences to wear down.

I cannot stop sneezing. This is what happened yesterday, leading me to think I was developing a cold. I am going to have to start taking antihistamines just to sit in the office. What’s it going to be like in the spring, when my arch nemesis, the cherry blossom arrives in our garden? I shall be safe nowhere…
