Top Cat (ii)
Wednesday, February 9th, 2011 10:38 amThe strange mank on my right index finger (that I have not mentioned before, so you didn’t miss it) seems to have gone and as soon as the skin edges wear down properly it will be as if it was never there. I wonder what it was; a touch of eczema, perhaps? Who knows?
Last night we decided to change our approach to The Cat and let it have the run of most of the house with the exception of the bathroom at all times, and the study and kitchen when there was no one to supervise him. This worked well enough until 3.00am when it became clear that despite having his own bed and indeed access to ours, where we had fond hopes he might sleep at the bottom, or on top or something (Hah!), it became clear that the only snug place was on Elle’s nose.
So that experiment failed, much to the cat’s surprise and dismay. It’s a shame in some ways, because he settled down reasonably well and was quite well behaved - other than choice of placement. So tonight he will have the run of the ground floor (excluding the kitchen) and the stairs, but not the bedroom, which is now added to the out of bounds list.
Having rediscovered her mild cat allergy, the distaste of having to clear out kitty litter and the constant belting back and forth of a mad moggie with too much energy and no sense, I think that
ellefurtle may be reviewing her ambition to own her own cat. My personal ambitions have never extended that far. Of course, if we had a cat, it would not be a house cat. It would have to be robust enough and sensible enough to be able to go outside and avoid the traffic at the front of the house and the burly fox out back. It would also have to be able to hold its own against the multitude of neighbourhood cats, extending to keeping the brutes out of our house. A couple of snares and a claymore or two might be cheaper. Certainly they wouldn’t need feeding.
Don’t get me wrong, Jasper is a nice little cat, quite friendly, affectionate and generally well-behaved; I quite like the little brute.
I just wish he would stay off the shelves and work surfaces so we can put everything back where it’s supposed to be.
