Ah the joys of the British climate.

Yesterday was, I think, the hottest day of the year so far in the South East and horribly humid with it. I see that there are forecasts for temperatures on the Tube to reach 38ºc (which is a miserable 100.4ºf in pounds, shillings and pence). Oh joy. We forsook the fan in the bedroom for the first part of the night, closed the windows and fired up the air conditioning.

Today of course, we have the ‘best’ of both worlds. It is hammering down with rain and yet still hot and therefore humid and clammy all at the same time. Wonderful. The UK seems to have six seasons, now: Winter, Spring, Early Summer, Monsoon season, Late Summer and Autumn. Autumn lasts about a fortnight sometime in October.

It is probably good for the garden. It certainly seems to be good for our tomatoes and cucumbers. It is not so good for me.

I am sad to note the passing of Richard Pearson , a British character actor who was more recognisable as a face than well-known by name.

He is probably best known for his portrayal of Mole in Cosgrove Hall’s 1983 adaptation of Wind in the Willows

He died on 2 August, the day after his 93rd birthday.
