It's all happening (somewhere else)
Monday, December 19th, 2011 10:55 amWell, it’s all happening out in the wider world, isn’t it?
Vāclav Havel, former president of Czechoslovakia, and more latterly the Czech Republic and architect of the Velvet Revolution died yesterday, aged 75. A day earlier, though no-one knew until this morning, North Korea made the smooth transition from Kim Jong-il to Kim Jong-dead.1
The placid calm that is the Gin Palace remained unmoved by these events, however, and we simply tidied up, played some Warcrack and awaited, late in the evening, the arrival of Messrs
averylaterabbit and
pax_draconis after their trip into central London to see The Lion in Winter at the Haymarket. Suffice it to say that when they arrived around 2330, we had two bottle of port and a great deal of cheese. By 0330 we didn’t.
It was good to catch up and we shall have to arrange something in the New Year.
Today starts the last working week of 2011 and I confess to being demob happy. I would really rather be at home2 despite the fact that tonight I shall have to tackle the coving in the kitchen, which is in the process of dropping off the ceiling. We acquired the necessary adhesive from Wickes yesterday, but I couldn’t face fixing it while dinner was being cooked, so I shall have a go tonight.
Only three more sleeps to D-Day!
1Don’t blame me, blame Moose Harris.
2Actually, that’s nearly always true.
