We got wedded!
Friday, December 23rd, 2011 10:14 pmSo
colonel_maxim came up to the Gin Palace the night before and we had a few drinks, nattered and then faded off to bed.
The next morning, despite it being 22nd December, dawned cool and clear. Sunny, even. Given today's greyness and rain, we were very lucky with the way the weather turned out. As it transpires, 22nd December this year was the shortest day, the winter solstice. I assure you that it was simple coincidence; there was no hidden pagan symbolism (though if it urns out to be positive symbolism, I might pretend in later tellings, that it was deliberate). Thursday was the day offered us by the Registry Office when we registered our intent to marry - a sort of civil reading of the banns as it were.
We met Furtle Ma and Furtle Pa off the train at 9.49 and decamped across the road for a coffee at Costa before catching the bus up to the registry office. I think I said some time ago, that we were being low key about it. Furtle sis was already there when we arrived and just as we were being ushered in to the room for the ceremony, Mr and Mrs
wallabok arrived just in time, having been beguiled by an adjoining Tesco.
We had the very basic ceremony and signed the register. By 11.10 or thereabouts,
caddyman and
ellefurtle were a married couple. It doesn't sound much, but it was just what we wanted, though it would have been nice if the taxi cab Furtle had ordered actually turned up.
We decamped back to the Gin Palace for champagne and food, carrying on until mid afternoon.
In the evening, our lovely neighbours,
ingenue_the and
harold_chasen came around as did
jfs and shortly afterwards,
westernind and
forbinproject. The party continued until quite late, I am happy to say.
In a nutshell, that was our wedding day. There was rather more romance to it all than it sounds.
A picture or two will follow in due course!
