And that's that...

The theory is that as long as I stay awake, I'm still on holiday.

Sadly however, reality intrudes and I shall be off to bed very shortly so that I can go to work tomorrow. I enjoyed about half of my extra day off; the weather brought the remains of our car-damaged fence down and it's clear that we will have to spend money putting it right. We really should get it sorted. In the meantime, it's held together with string. String tied to the water butt, string tied to the thickest part of the base of the trunk of the jasmine bush in the huge planter out front. Hopefully that will hold the disintegrating panel in place until we can replace it and whatever else needs fixing out there.

So tomorrow: back in the office. There are three months left before the system I have worked on since 1999 is legislated out of existence. Then, apart from a decreasing amount of legacy work, it's all change.

That will be good; I need a change at work and I already know that I am assured a job when things change. I just don't know yet what it will be.

For God's sake: it's almost exciting!

Pointless things occupying my mind right now include the observation, arrived at after watching Great Expectations on the BBC over the Christmas break, that if Goths ever managed to get their act together and form an independent state, the currency would have to be the Havisham.

Now I realise that Miss Havisham is an eternal bride in waiting and always dressed in white rather than black, but she is the undisputed queen of deranged literary ‘Emo’. This brings me to the minor unit of currency, which would clearly be the Emo. I guess the logical make up would be One Havisham is made up from 100 Emos, but that seems too simple, so I think it would be more likely to be based upon pre-decimal coinage, so there would have to be 240 Emos to the Havisham. Of course, this is rather unwieldy at times, so 12 Emos would be one Estella, with 20 Estellas to the Havisham.

Some people might suggest, given the Goth look that a Dracula inspired currency might be more appropriate, but I should have thought that The Count, or Prince Vlad, would be President for Unlife (hah!) and it would be tacky to name the currency for the Head of State.
