Oi. Leave off!
Wednesday, February 22nd, 2012 05:06 pmThis morning Furtle had to be up at 5.15am and out of the house by 5.45. So of course we set multiple alarms to ensure she woke up at this ungodly hour.
Unfortunately for me, the plan of going back to sleep until my normal hour didn’t quite come off; I half dozed for a while, but by 6.30 it was quite clear that I was wide awake and there was no chance even of lounging any further. So I got up. This was not the plan.
That said, I must have got some quality sleep in the four and a half hours between going to bed and being aurally assaulted at sparrowfart. I truly feared that this afternoon I should be a drooling wreck, but I’m not. Well, I probably am, but rather less than expected and much less than sometimes when I’ve had what was ostensibly a fuller night’s sleep. Odd how these things work out.
Mind you, I’ve had stuff to do today. Not earth-shattering or overly challenging stuff, but stuff nonetheless. That helps no end.
In unrelated news, I have proven to my satisfaction that wearing earphones at work and listening to music while working is a sure-fire way to raise my status to ‘Mr Popularity 2012’. Honestly, I can go days at a time without passing more than a dozen words with anyone unless I initiate a conversation. This isn’t a complaint: I like to be left to get on with whatever I am doing, and I can always chat if I want to. Sometimes, however, it is nice to listen to a little music while working – especially if it’s something familiar – it cuts out background noise (well, some of it) and in the past at least, signalled that I am concentrating on something and would prefer not to be disturbed. Maybe the rules have changed. Now it seems to be taken as an invitation to harass me when I am doing something tediously technical that requires focus.
Not that it matters this time because it’s just a journal post, but I have just been interrupted for a five minute chat about coffee jars.
