Catching up

Last night we were just absolutely wiped out. Furtle collapsed into bed about 10.30 and I caved in and went to bed about 11, reading for a half hour or so before collapsing into a little over seven hours of the old dreamless. There is a severe stamina deficit among the denizens of the Gin Palace I think…

As previously reported, Friday night was Rammstein night. Owing to a communications cockup that was largely if not entirely my fault, I spent nearly forty minutes on the Jubilee Line platform at Westminster getting more worried and fretful, while Furtle spent the same period getting more annoyed and fretful at her officer desk wondering when I was going to confirm that I could leave work. In the end it all worked out and I frankly didn’t mind the semi grumpy greeting I finally received as I was just too relieved that nothing had happened apart from me being a numpty in the communications stakes.

Rammstein were good, very good –though did feel their stage work was a little less polished than last time we saw them: they are promoting Made in Germany, which is essentially a greatest hits CD and as such they not only played a selection of the best stuff, they did the stage shows that originally went with each number. This meant a sequence of carefully staged and well-rehearsed changes to the stage and backdrop, but some of the transitions took a while to achieve, which slowed the set down a little.

Nonetheless, a great evening out and it was very good to see [profile] fractalgeek who, for all his musical interests and peregrinations, had never seen Rammstein before! The only real shame was that we didn’t in the end, manage to co-ordinate times with [personal profile] bibliogirl and [profile] rotwang, despite text exchanges. We did see and wave at them in their seats a little further around then arena, though.

Saturday we had a bit of a lie in and then, hung some pictures in the living room and bedroom. Only an art print and a couple of framed posters, but they have added the finishing touches, I think, to the living room. We just need a bit or rewiring done upstairs and then we can get on with decorating the bedroom, too. In the living room we now have a Hopper print and a Van Gogh print. If only we could afford originals!

As the weather was nice, did some gardening, too. I planted a load of spuds, nearly killing myself in the process: two of the bags were much bigger than those I reused from last year, so took an awful lot more soil. They took some lugging from the bottom of the garden, I can tell you.

In the meantime, Furtle cleaned out the shed and rearranged everything in it – this is a job she would normally enjoy, but Shelob lives in there: while we are generally quite happy for her to rent shed space, it does mean that there has to be some negotiating when tidying up.

Sunday, after another lie in – though not quite such a late lie in, we decamped to Furtle’s folks for Sunday lunch, by way of a two mile walk through the park and countryside to the pub. We had a very nice time indeed, but my God, we were knackered by the time we got home. In the evening, we had just enough energy to watch Homeland on C4 before collapsing into bed, though I did manage to read a couple of chapters before dozing off.

The upshot is that this morning we are – or at least I am well rested, but I for one am very creaky. All those muscles that have seen no extra use over the winter have been woken up with a grumble.
