wading through treacle
Friday, June 15th, 2012 11:03 amSome mornings you jump out of bed and bounce around like a spring lamb.
Today is not one of those days.
For the first time in ages, I was actually woken up by my alarm, rather than it acting as a reminder to get up now, while lying in cosy contemplation. I had breakfast and managed to end up feeling both hungry and stuffed at the same time (Apparently it’s something to do with fructose and the way it fools the digestive system. I’ll have to re-read the contents list of the rice krispies and then check the milk and the coffee jar. I didn’t even use sugar!). Then, on the way in to work, I nearly missed my stop at Westminster and could easily have found myself washing up in due course at Stanmore.
I think that I am fighting off a cold or something. I keep sneezing and I feel just too warm all the time. Not hot as such, just a little too warm. And I could sleep for a full day.
I think that I shall take the opportunity to leave work as early as possible this afternoon. If I leave at 4 I should be able to get home in time to have an early supper before watching England struggle to make any kind of impact against an ordinary Sweden team. I am hoping it won’t be quite as horrible as Ireland’s game last night. It shouldn’t be as Ireland are one of the weakest teams in the tournament and Spain the world champions. That said, England have an almost limitless capacity to underwhelm and have an ordinary to poor record against Sweden in recent years.
Or I might not bother1
Still: it’s nearly the weekend!
1I probably shall…
