Today is our first full day in Germany, for our long awaited holiday/honeymoon. I am writing this on [livejournal.com profile] ellefurtle's iPad, so if it all comes out a bit wonky its because I'm not used to the touch keypad, or have missed one of Apple's mysterious word substitutions.

We flew in yesterday from London City Airport, having allowed rather longer than necessary to get there. I've never a used London City before and I have to say that it's really rather nice - for an airport. Very small and compact, though when we went to get on the plane itself, I did did rather think that I should have brought goggles.

To kill time before boarding, we had coffee, with afforded Furtle the opportunity to misunderstand one advert and misread another. The fist was advertising a chicken and bacon club. "I think I should like that club," she said, before realising that it was a sandwich (although that doesn't invalidate the observation). The second misreading was the advert that had a picture of a bacon sarnie, and the legend, according to her first parsing of it, "The best bacon, Fatty". We nearly peed ourselves laughing and everyone's mush have thought us mad. I don't know where she got the comma from, though I can imagine the word "butty" transmogrifying into fatty. "I thought it was a bit direct!" she said.

I don't think there were any other shenanigans to be had in the airport, though we did pass a doors labelled 'rhubarb' on the way to the aeroplane.

We arrived in Zurich ten minutes ahead of schedule and promptly lost that advantage in passport control as we were in the only queue where the family at the desk had a somehow managed to mess up their papers. Still, we got out reasonably promptly, picked up the bags and founD the bahnhoff. We assumed that we had missed the train that we were hoping to catch, but it was a couple of minutes late, so we made it!

The train journey to Konstanz was uneventful, we found a taxi and got to the hotel before their odd reception closing time of 8.30 and checked into the room. The room itself is comfortable a enough though it has comedy curtains, which don't quite cover the entire window at any point, which is okay in the daytime, but potentially embarrassing at night. The wifi is a bit wonky, though free, but it does mean that we are unlikely to be able to post photos until we get home (or at least move up to Heidelberg later in the week). Now I have to say this is a bit of a shame. I posted a couple of pictures on Farcebörk last night, but they took ages to upload - one is of seriously low quality and we are going to get abetted Picture today or tomorrow in the daylight. You won,t believe the scroll on that statue!

We discovered a rather splendid Brauhaus in the altstadt where we had dinner and a couple of home brews before wandEring back to the hotel and collapsing for the night. Today we are going to take a look at the lake and possibly take a trip on the water. I expect we'll explore Konstanz a bit, too.

More to come in due course. Toodles, amigos.
