Not quite to plan
Thursday, November 8th, 2012 11:48 amI took yesterday off so that I could recover from staying up all night on Tuesday to watch the US Election results roll in.
Other than observing that it wasn’t anywhere near as close in Electoral College votes as we’d expected and therefore not quite the nail-biting race we’d been led to expect, I shall simply congratulate the winner, the less poor of two dismal candidates, and move on.
Having spent the wee small hours on the sofa, dozing from time to time, I gave up just after 6am after Romney’s concession speech. Unfortunately, it wasn’t worth going to bed right then as
ellefurtle was due to get up at 6.30, so I put the coffee on instead. My intention, after Furtle had gone to work, was to play a little Warcraft, perhaps watch a little TV and then have a nap around lunchtime.
It didn’t quite work out like that: Blizzard, the company behind Warcraft had taken all their servers down for maintenance until lunchtime, so that option went away. I did watch a bit of telly, though and then decided to muck about on the PC, surfing the web and such. I found a tribute on iPlayer to the late, great Eric Sykes. It took me an hour and a half to watch the 50+ minutes, because at about that time I started receiving texts from herself and then a series of individual parcel deliveries, each exquisitely timed to keep me bobbing up and down like a whore’s drawers. One of the deliveries, oddly, was made by a rather harassed and bolshy woman who immediately swanned off in a taxi after dropping the parcel off at the Gin Palace. I don’t think I’ve ever had a parcel delivered by taxi before…
Anyway, by the time it had all settled down, I had entered that phase where I no longer felt tired and Warcraft was back on line, so…
I tell you what, though. I went out like a light when I went to bed last night and slept the sleep of the dead. I think that someone just hit the “off” switch.
I still didn’t want to get up this morning, mind, even after nearly seven solid hours of the old dreamless.
