caddyman: (Christmas)
Over the past few months I seem to have drifted away from LJ - I don't check back on a daily basis these days, much less the several times I day I was wont to to in times gone by. I just find it hard to think of things to write about these days. I don't know if it's work, or the rather less interesting commute, or whatever, but there doesn't seem to be as much worth mentioning as once there was. That said, I have no plans to leave LJ any time soon. I may not post quite as regularly in the past, but I shall still be here.

It's not Christmas until tomorrow and already it's been a busy time since I finished work appropriately early on Friday. It was our Christmas lunch and for once it was on the proper side of Christmas - it has been pushed back deep into January a couple of times over the past few years, so actually having the meal in December was good. I wasn't sure that having it on the last working day before Christmas was a good idea, but it worked out well. A good meal that finished by 2.15 and allowed me time to nip into the West End for a little final shopping and moochment.

Saturday saw us up and about at a quite unconscionable hour for a weekend, much less a holiday weekend. We spent our first wedding anniversary ploughing our way up to Harwich in miserable weather for a Furtle family clan gathering. A couple of days earlier her Gran had turned 90 and it has to be said that a ninetieth birthday party rather trumps a first wedding anniversary. So, two large meals out in as many days. I could get used to that sort of life, even if my bank account and waistline couldn't. I should mention that the trip up involved a half hour wait at Manningtree, which is not very exciting in and of itself, but there is a little pub/café on the station where they were selling whisky and ginger hot toddies at 10.30am. So we had one.

Arrival at Harwich gave us an hour or so to kill, so we did the only decent thing and went to the pub. I must ask the name of the place from Furtle's Dad as I have forgotten it, but I managed a couple of pints of truly tasty real ale before we wandered off to the hotel for Furtle's Gran's birthday blow out. That was all very civilised, but I must admit that having said 'yes' to the walk back to Dover Court, about a mile and a half away, I anticipated a leisurely stroll along the seafront while I digested the meal. What I got was a route march that didn't sit too well with a full stomach and the fact that I was wearing the nice new coat that I'd bought in Germany, meaning that I was rather too warm by the time we made landfall chez Furtle's Grandfolks. I may have dozed off in the chair and missed the opportunity for a mince pie, though I have to confess that I'm not sure there was space in the old tum for further edibles.

Anyway, for all the flying around in atrocious weather, we had a nice time, so that's all that matters.

Right. I'm off now - things to do, you know. Things to do. If I don't have another chance to do so this side of Christmas, I shall wish you a Merry Christmas now and express the hope that you have a really spiffy one.

Later, Amigos.
