Chap Olympiad

So much for my promise to write LJ entries more frequently; apart from a one-liner, this is the first chance I’ve had this week.

Friday, after work, ellefurtle and I met up with keresaspa on his annual jaunt to the Metrop to tour the hidden bookeries of interest and note. We managed to miss him on his recent trips over the past couple of years since we left the sunny heights of Whetstone. Being a relatively impromptu decision to go for a drink we ended up in the reasonably convivial, but not overly cheap Dirty Dick’s on the Bishopsgate side of Liverpool Street Station. It was good to catch up, though I have to say that the heat meant that a relatively low number of pints had me feeling er… distinctly tired by the time we got home, whereupon we ordered in Chinee because, frankly, hot and semi-pissed, plus late.

Don’t judge me.

Next day, that’d be Saturday for those readers who failed to retain the Friday reference above, was taken up (after a short lie in), with a trip to Bedford Square to meet mrtonylee, literaryrose and various other chums sans LJ for the annual Chap Olympiad

We’ve been meaning to go for some years, but this was the first time we’ve actually got around to it. It is a splendid display of English eccentricity and highly recommended. We both avoided alcohol after the previous night and this was just as well, frankly. It was the hottest day of the year to that date and I zoned out more than once because of the heat. I should have enjoyed it far more had it been about 5 degrees centigrade cooler.
