Interesting as it is, I was hoping to read a few "true" 'it happened to me' or 'a friend of a friend saw...' ghost stories.

...deflated...

I did not fill in the poll as my thoughts on such things are not clearly binary.

I have however had an experience whilst in a haunted building where a few of us could not get out. We were in the front room and after trying and failing to get the front door open we came to the conclusion that someone had accidentally locked the front door, we were in no rush and there were plenty of people about and so (after many attempts to open the door) we chose to wait and see. A few minutes later someone walked in, the door was never locked, and there was no problem at all opening the door from the inside.

Not sure that this in any way shows that there are actually ghosts, it was certainly a little odd. Apparently the building occasionally decides that it would like to hold on to people for a bit (I guess it could just be a dodgy lock - although I am pretty sure it was not).

Does that help? Not very dramatic

Very creepy, and somewhat disconcerting.

Interested though.

I guess I am someone who does not really believe in ghosts because I have never seen proper evidence thereof. Certainly close friends have seen things, but my science brain needs to see something positive for myself to really believe. I would postulate that were this not the case that the above tale would have completely convinced me - I just need something more obvious, I guess.

Apparently I work in a haunted building. It *is* very old and used to be a hospital including a safe ward for insane patients, so has the required history.

When we moved in to it the admin secretary for the section, who was a self confessed spiritualist, declared that there were 'lots of unhappy spirits' in the building and that sometimes she would see them. She went on long term sick shortly after being put in that building (for physical not mental issues) and then left work without returning there. I don't know if the two were related.

There is CCTV footage of a glowing ball of light moving around the building at night, including IIRC passing through doors. Security who were in the building at the time went to check it out but I believe that even though the security guard was in the right location he couldn't see anything while the CCTV could.

Other people have reported happenings in the cellars, although they are incredibly spooky so it doesn't surprise me people would be jumpy down there.

We also live in a very old C17th in places house and the youngest member of the family reported seeing a man in an overcoat stood watching him from another room along when he was in bed, we explained it as shadows ('cause I don't think we really believe in ghosts etc. at all) but for a while he wouldn't sleep with that door open and his description of the figure was unsettlingly specific. On a later occassion the other adult in the house was positive she saw similar looking from the lounge to the kitchen, but again, it could have been shadows coupled with prior knowledge.

A friend who was 'monstering' in Chislehurst Caves for Labyrinthe was in one of the tunnels with no lights, waiting for the party to come and felt a physical presence, but cold and somehow malevant push past him. It seriously unsettled him. Chislehurts Caves happily promotes the rumour of being haunted and has spots people can't stay in overnight, but there were night LARP games there and I think there has been a night lasertag game run there so it might just be to scare the muggles on the cave trips.

Like Kathbad, I think my feelings and opinions on the matter aren't sufficiently neat to pick yes/no answers. But if you'd allowed lots of "maybe" answers the poll wouldn't have been much use, either.

I've got shedloads of supernatural stories, but I haven't associated any of them with "ghosts" so I didn't speak. Mostly religious experiences. Are you still interested?
