Retirement?!

I have just discovered (via email) that the mandatory retirement age for civil servants is to be abolished. For me at least, this is great news – as much as I would love not to have to work beyond 60, I fear the thought of reduced income and too much time on my hands far, far more than I do the thought of turning up to work.

Health permitting, I should like to carry on in some capacity to at least statutory retirement and maybe past that, even.

Dear God, it seems odd talking about this, but realistically it’s not that far away in the great scheme of things.

Now I have depressed and cheered myself in equal measure, it’s time to read the newspaper.

I think all the ****** time about retirement. I'll be entitled to get the heck out of there at fifty five, but financially I'll have to stay until I'm well into my sixties. Even though I go insane with ennui if I stay at home for a week twiddling my thumbs, I'd rather go mad there than postal in The Dungeon. Muhahahaaaa!

You're right, though: the time will pass quicker than we know.
