It’s warm enough in the sun this morning, but even here in London, the temperatures are down and an icy wind from the third circle blows across the Kingdom. Winter, it seems, is settling in early. According to the radio this morning there have been wintry showers in the North, with white-outs in some areas. Whether these are real white-outs or English white-outs, I have no idea, but the point is that it’s all happening a bit early. We are not that deeply into Autumn and whilst the odd snow flurry on the outskirts of Moscow should be expected in October, the UK shouldn’t need to worry about that for another month (and even then, it’s rare).

My point is, that I like cold weather and snow. I want that stuff down here (I am very much in the minority, but I don’t care). I want to be able to look out of the window and see snow coming down thick and fast. I want drifts in the streets. I want an excuse to break out the mulled wine. I want to stay at home and toast my toes against the radiators.

I’m going to be disappointed aren’t I?

Me too- I love proper winter weather. Normally in this country I wrap up warm and then get far, far too hot while walking to work. I want proper cold, dammit!

I too hope for cold and snow. I have smelled it on the wind these last few days and find myself thinking it is December.

I suppose you'd quite like the Thames to freeze over, for young scamps and street urchins to go skating on it and for a farmers winter market to be set up on the frozen banks of the river.

would be nice, but it's not likely.....

I would, yes.

Particularly if it thawed quickly and the Young Scamps and Street Urchins got swept away.

Muhn hah haaaaa....

Another vote for snow here. I can forecast that there will be snow in January, because I'm going to visit [livejournal.com profile] trampledamage in Canada and it always snows more in London than it does in Canada when I visit in winter, which is so unfair!

Bryan, I can attest that you and all your friends are insane. If you want cold and snow, get thyself over to The Groove Shack in a few months (or maybe even within a few weeks) and help me shovel the annoying stuff. And they can all help too. Mrs James will make restorative Mexican nosh for all. And I shall stand and watch you - er, I mean supervise.

Loon.

The entire point is to stock up with food and stuff and hide in the house for a couple of months warm and cozy, without going to work. Only emerging from time to time to make snow angels in the fresh falls.

Shovelling snow? You can take a work ethic too far!

Nerk that I am, I feel guilty if I call in snowed, and then get paid to spend all day watching films and playing guitar.

You and your blasted wishes! I was in Stevenage seeing a film with [livejournal.com profile] mitchy and when we came out it was chucking down snow like a Christmas Special. Driving down the unlit section of the A1 in that was no picnic, I can tell you.

Your wish is granted! At least it is a bit further south than you so must be there too - surely!
