There are two things I check online regularly during the day and it is all round woe if either one isn’t working properly. These of course are Live Journal and Gmail. Obviously, LJ is behaving itself, but whilst Google itself seems fine, Gmail appears to be coughing up blood. It won’t load and so my home email and any notifications sent to me by LJ are inaccessible.

Boo.

In other news, I had to break off from games night for a few minutes last night to investigate strange CRUMPrat-tat-tattle noises from upstairs. I just had to know what Furtle was up to: had she lost patience with something and was busily dismantling it with extreme prejudice?

In fact, no. Wandering, with some trepidation into the study, I was confronted with a red-faced Furtle hunched over reams of paper and applying great force to them with a double-hole punch for filing. I managed to ask “What on earth..?” just as I got the full force of another CRUMPrat-tat-tattle unfiltered by the floor. The second, and probably more mysterious, part of the sound appears to have been the fork and spoon on the dinner plate at the other end of her desk dancing each time she used the hole punch.

I have rarely been privileged to see a face of such studied innocence as that presented at that point.

I should mention at this point, before someone else does, that there is a history of room-shaking noises dating back to the early Clapham days, but that time I was the culprit. It had occurred to me that I had a number of empty coke can lying around the police and that they should be removed. It also occurred to me that they would take up less bin space if crushed.

So I crushed them.

On the floor.

With my foot.

All was proceeding rather nicely until a perplexed [livejournal.com profile] colonel_maxim (so long ago now, that it was pre-intarweb) advanced up the stairs to find out what the hideous crunching noises were in the room above his, that made his light swing and plaster dust float down from the ceiling…

G-Mail is having some problems right now. Should be back up in a bit.

I'd always suspected the rozzers of being involved in the supply of illegal narcotics to previously abstemious civil servants. I hadn't realised it came in cans.

could that be a Freudian slip?

By tags I mean that list of wordses wot you have down the left side of your page. They take forever to load and I can't do anything until they Have loaded. - I hate waiting and they make me wait.

I'm still confused; they shouldn't appear on your friends page at all!

But when you read someone's comments you go into their journal. You use lots of tags so the tags section on the left of the screen is very full. I love your tags, however! They are fab.
I don't know if there is a way to display them on individual posts but not the whole list on the side of each page - bearing in mind that you still have to be able to access them!

I removed a list of tags from my own page. Unnecessary, I thought, and took up space. Some templates will allow removal, some won't, but then some templates don't include that list at all. For me, it's graphics, not lots of text, that will take ages to load.

And we have a Coke can crusher screwed to a tree trunk outside our house, that a previous owner installed. We've never used it, but someone was probably quite the beer monster!

They are great tags but I am writing this message level with the letters C and D and when I click on post reply it can take up to 30 seconds for the reply to post - even longer when LJ is busy and in these rush and hurry days. That's not the time that it irritates. the time it annoys is when I have an answer and want to write it NOW and I have to wait for the tags to load so that I can talk to you. A minor irritation and nothing to lose sleep over, just me being a pedant.... on a Tuesday.... with only --- OMG Pancakes! it's Pancake DAY waHAY!

I love pancakes, but they're a pain to make for just one person.

I'm sure there's an option under 'manage account' that allows you to read comments on my journal in the style of your journal...

Wouldn't that lose the tags?

I don't get them when I read comments. It's settable in the settings section of manage your account. If I remember rightly, go here http://www.livejournal.com/manage/settings/?cat=display and tick the "Comment Pages" box, so that you're viewing them in the style of your own journal, rather than the one you're visiting.

Coke cans - at what time in the morning did you decide that they needed crushing?
