All awake in Clapham

I should have seen this coming, but a fortnight of laying in bed as long as you are wont tends to put it out of your mind. Yes, folks it's the small wee hours of Wednesday morning, and I am wide awake. Sunday night syndrome for midweek.

The joy of it.

To pass the time, I have decided to plug in the old jukebox and play at random. So, without googling, which is ver' ver' naughty, can you identify these lyrics snatched from the last ten random tracks kicked up by the Archos? The first one is clearly a gimme...

  • Commencing countdown, engines on... Space Oddity, David Bowie [livejournal.com profile] irdm

  • He didn't do it, he wasn't there. He didn't want it, he wouldn't dare.. Good Morning, Judge, 10cc [livejournal.com profile] pauln

  • I was distracted at the time; forget about yours, what about mine?... Not My Idea, Garbage [livejournal.com profile] grendelchild

  • Sometimes I drive so fast just to feel the danger Anything But Ordinary, Avril Lavigne [livejournal.com profile] ephraim

  • If the sky that we look upon should tumble and fall and the mountains crumble to the sea... Stand By Me (in this case by Lennon)[livejournal.com profile] ephraim

  • All I know is the way I feel, and it's the key to being alive...

  • I know I laughed when you left, but now I know I only hurt myself... Bring It On Home To Me, Sam Cooke [livejournal.com profile] cybersofa

  • So deep this feeling I have for you, your eyes pierced through my heart...

  • When I was just a child, my parents would drive me wild...

  • What made my life so wonderful? What made me feel so bad? I used to wake up the ocean, I used to walk on clouds Afraid, David Bowie [livejournal.com profile] cybersofa

Hey, it's something to do, ain't it?

Sometimes I drive so fast just to feel the danger

This is Avril Lavigne - Anything but ordinary. And I'm ashamed that I know this.

If the sky that we look upon should tumble and fall and the mountains crumble to the sea...

Is (originally) Ben E King's marvellous Stand by me. But it could also be any of a million trillion cover versions.

Other than that I think that your taste is too obscure for me...

I know I laughed when you left, but now I know I only hurt myself...

Bring It On Home To Me by, ooh, could be lots of people, Animals, the late Lennon, Sir Van etc, but let's say Sam Cooke.

What made my life so wonderful? What made me feel so bad? I used to wake up the ocean, I used to walk on clouds

Bowiebowiebowie, but what is it called? Afraid?

A bit of humming along and trying to remember the next line suggests that 2 is Dreadlock Holiday, 10cc

Right and right - except that I was listening to Lennon's rendition. Still, short of being psychic...

I think you might find that these aren't all as obscure as you might think...

Quite right on both counts.

I wasn't actually sure anyone would get 'Afraid'.
