Despite the apparent downturn in the number of updates by a large section of my friends list –is blogging no longer the ‘in thing?’ Is it no longer fashionable? – LJ continues to be an intriguing place.

Toward the end of last week, I was invited to join two communities I’d never heard of, by people I don’t know. The first, [livejournal.com profile] the_blue_whale is probably best described as a pictorial celebration of (primarily) 1950s and 1960s oddness on the web; at its best when old movie posters appear, or items looking forward to the future (or ‘now,’ as we like to think of it).

The second community is [livejournal.com profile] theboringclub, an unabashed celebration of all things boring. That is the place to celebrate your latest cup of coffee, or discuss the shoddy seam work on a new pair of trousers.

I cannot help but think that this is what the web was invented for. I have joined both, though the latter still awaits my maiden post. Maybe this should be it, though I fancy it may be too interesting.

It has occurred to me to wonder what it is about this journal that elicited the invitations…

I think people 'tweet' or facebook at each other, hoping for the day they are transmogrified into floating brains with feeding spikes that can communicate pheromonally and get rid of all that pesky word slinging altogether. Keep up the good work and blog on! Mr. Caddy.

Possibly A Trifle Too Exhilarating

Here´s a fav. LJ-er of mine (who maintains I don´t know how many interesting -in case one is interested in any or more of the topics- communities as well) who put up a similar question for discussion a little while ago: http://dfordoom.livejournal.com/804217.html

[livejournal.com profile] theboringclub is an occasionally sober but always sombre place for exploring, deploring and annihilating boring anarchy in a cardboard shoe-box of our own homemade make, the both right and leftover corner to contemplate not only boring sex or being Hardy with Laurel hitting one over the head with a plank over and over again til someone cries out of sheer you guessed it, but also provides literature on how to bake bombs behind the hopeless Hopper bar equipped with nothing but mum´s apron (both aprons and magazines to be found securing the tables from tipping over with it all). Prepare to be bored in exceptionally gifted company. We are against most things and host great funk of fun.
