We had this conversation at gaming on Sunday. The final decision was that they are about to drastically cut the services anyway (half the number of subs?) and so it's a way to use the missiles up before they have to pay storage on them. It's not like traffic cones where they can just leave all the ones they don't need on the M1 for a couple of months...

Except that while they may be scrapping the aircraft, they will reorder the munitions to equip those we have left.

That is a wholly one-sided "cost analysis"! Would be nice if the cartoonist could also put a number of Libyan civilian lives saved, e.g. "a dozen nurses" = 20,000 (?) Libyan civilians protected from Gaddafi. The British public might then think it was a worthy expenditure.
