Last night we decided to catch up on season 3 of Being Human - we managed to miss several episodes first time around, so we decided it was best just to record them and watch the series in sequence at our leisure.

I have noticed that a lot of people either here or over on FarceBook have raved, but I have to say that we found the first episode to be rather a slow burner, with rather too much introspection from Mitchell. I don’t mind character building in my TV, but I prefer it to concentrate on building the character in the story rather than trying to build my character through watching it.

My fondest hope in the episode was sadly dashed.

For one, brief and shining moment, I had thought and hoped to see Barry Backplot from Torchwood get eaten. Sadly it was not to be.

Season three starts then, with a slow burn.

Or you lot have fibbed outrageously.

It will soon be time to start looking out for season four of True Blood. I am hoping it will start with someone walking out of the shower and explaining that sections at least of season 3 were a dream and that Sookie is not actually a bloody fairy!

Man, that idea blew chunks and if they stick with it, we will be able to point derisively at the moment the show jumped the shark!

We will be catching up with Supernatural too, though with the stupid mid season breaks, I can't quite remember what's going on any more.

Not shark jumping - its book canon. They're based on the Sookie Stackhouse novels - and though they have tons of new characters and different plot twists so could choose to stray from canon if they wanted the fae plotline is pretty bloody central to what the books are. (and it is set up lightly from season 1, not a new intro at season 3 even in the TV)

FWIW, I'm not enjoying Being Human as much this time around either. (That's probably why we've still got five unwatched episodes stacked up on the Sky box.)

As to Sookie, sorry to disappoint, but that - unlike a large chunk of this and the previous season - is true to the books. It works better in the books somehow (as does how Eric is written).

Perhaps it was the suggestion that they were Conan Doyle style Victorian fairies rather than fae in the more folkloric sense that throttled my ability to suspend disbelief.

I suspect as Ann said, they probably work better in the books, where they can be imagined as other than Bonnie Tyler video extras.

As already mentioned in the books she is revealed as such but not til much later on and the ones in the books are much much earthier creatures.

Oh and Being Human 3rd series gets pretty epic, I even like the Robson Green character. And I hate Robson Green.

We have Being Human to watch, but haven't started yet. Then again, we've had Season 5 Supernatural on the shelf for heading for a year now and am yet to unshrink wrap it. I blame the constant addition of new stuff to the PVR...

Yeah, it definitely starts slow and improves, with a couple of fun detours along the way.

I own every one. My best friend in America is an addict and she got me into them. Agree, I prefer book Eric massively and I'm not sure about the additional Sam plot. Like Tara and Lafayette though.
It's like two completely different things in a similar world I guess...
