A relatively quiet bank holiday weekend has passed during which we did some gardening, but not a lot else. I must stir myself to start the final stages of repair work on the shower tonight. It’s been out of action for weeks and laziness not withstanding, I prefer the shower to the bath.

So, tonight –or tomorrow night, or the night after- it’s time to sort the grouting. When that’s done, we can wash the walls down with sugar soap, let it dry and spray on the fancy polymer sealant that will soak into the tiles and grout and form a waterproof seal. Later in the week, we will have to strip the rubber sealant away from the junction between the tiles and the shower tray etc, clean it with methylated spirit and apply a new layer. Then, finally, we will be able to use the shower again. I just hope that it’s properly sealed: I put enough adhesive on the back to ensure that they will stay up in the face of a nuclear attack.

What else did we get up to...?

Yesterday we paid a visit to the local Territorial Army Centre, where the recently deployed RAF detachment was holding an open day to show off the Puma helicopters that will be based there during the Olympic period. There were a couple of helicopters to look at; one was open for the kids to crawl over. There wasn’t much to see and we didn’t stay too long, but it was a useful little exercise in public relations. Interestingly, we had to provide photographic ID and proof of address to get in. Apart from entering or leaving the country, I can’t think of any other time I’ve needed photographic ID, though I’m sure there must have been occasions…

Anyway, in lieu of actual written content, here are a couple of photos:

Played a fair amount of Warcraft, too. I have been trying and failing to improve at PvP and because I am so poor at it, the experience rewards that will enable me to buy better kit for my main character is slow in coming. I managed to blunder my way to a couple of achievements, though, so it’s not all been a waste of time (or at least any more of a waste than playing a computer game ever is).

For those who know about WoW, I managed to obtain Vial of the sands too, which is very cool.

Isn't there a free trial version of WoW, for those of us who are curious but baulk at an initial outlay?

I believe that you can install and play up to Level 20 for free, to get a taste of the world and its dynamics. Max level is currently 85, rising to at least 90 when the new expansion comes out.

I'm not sure it's your cup of tea though, if you like Call of Duty and other such shoot 'em ups. But for free, it may be worth you trying it. I find it quite fun, and being in a guild, I quiten enjoy the online banter, too.
