Interesting...

Just for my own amusement I posted a private, backdated entry of the tracker that seems to be popping up here and there on LJ land.

Having dated it at 2010, it is always at the top of my own page so I can see the last ten visitors to my LJ. Interestingly, no-one on my friends list ever comes here it seems (so how the hell do you all manage to comment, tell me that?), but I have a lot of throughput from the Russian Federation and the Ukraine.

And it seems, some regular visitors who are not on my friends list.

Hello. Yes you at the back - no, the other one - that's it you in Newtown, Australia. I can see you.

And you, over in Ocean Springs, Mississippi... ;-)

Have you remembered to substitute in "Caddyman" before the .gif - it sounds as if it is notpicking up access to your LJ?

The tracker will be broken soon enough as it spreads.

I'm guessing it works by reading the referring URL - so rather than actually telling you who is actually reading the page it tells you whose friends list is being read. This is an important distinction as anyone can read anyone's friends list - thus reducing the level of accuracy.

I also suspect that friends will turn up far less frequently because we don't actually go to your LJ, your entries go to ours.

It seems to pick that up.

Well, it did. [livejournal.com profile] kneeshooter's prediction that it would fall apart under the strain of adoption seems to have proven true.

Heh.
