It's all been a rehearsal up until today. No matter what it says on the calendar, it isn't ready until it's ready; nature won't be rushed by anything as mundane as the printed word, or the say so of mankind's timetable.

And today, it is ready, thank you very much.

The balance has tipped. The buds are open a little bit more than they were; the balance of leaf to twig has shifted in favour of the former. The blossom is fuller and fully bright, the flowers open and pointing at the sun, and in profusion. The sun is out, a little stronger, but not over powering. The shy is blue and the breeze light and fresh. Trip worker bees are out and about getting the first shopping of the year for the hive, and the world is a brighter, fresher green than it was yesterday.

One day every year this happens: the world is suddenly and noticeably greener, fresher and more vibrant.

Forget your calendars. Nature is ready, and it's putting on its show.

Today it is Spring.

Apropos of nothing, I think you should read this post with a certain gentleman of Narbonne in mind.

Did you take your BP meds this morning?

I am tranquil. TRANQUIL, I SAY!

I saw it just before I saw your response here. I don't think there's anything I can add to the debate other than giving Rich a supportive pat on the back, for the reasons I outlined.

But if he appears at the last NWO, you will see precisely what a bad-mooded Bryan is capable of. That's not an invitation, by the way. ;-)

More a solidarity of opinion issue, I thought.

Heh.

I am now banishing thoughts of all such people, to continue with my tranquil and Spring-like day.

It is spring you know, I am now calm, I know what to do.

It's the first day this year that I wished I'd brought my sunglasses. The light has a different quality. Brighter, warmer.

Oh, to be in England
Now that April's there,
And whoever wakes in England
Sees, some morning, unaware,
That the lowest boughs and the brushwood sheaf
Round the elm-tree bole are in tiny leaf,
While the chaffinch sings on the orchard bough
In England—now!

And after April, when May follows,
And the whitethroat builds, and all the swallows!
Hark, where my blossomed pear-tree in the hedge
Leans to the field and scatters on the clover
Blossoms and dewdrops—at the bent spray's edge—
That's the wise thrush; he sings each song twice over,
Lest you should think he never could recapture
The first fine careless rapture!
And though the fields look rough with hoary dew,
All will be gay when noontide wakes anew
The buttercups, the little children's dower
—Far brighter than this gaudy melon-flower!
