I think you ought to know that I'm terribly depressed...
Thursday, May 5th, 2005 03:11 pmLast night we (the Athenaeum Club) popped out to watch The Hitchhiker’s Guide to The Galaxy.
Not a bad movie, but not a great movie, either. Maybe 6½ out of 10. The editing was a bit odd, and the story disjointed. Performances were generally good though, and the special effects were splendid.
I doubt it will make my DVD collection unless/until it reaches about £6.99, or comes out with a great deal of additional scenes added back in.
Or both.
Both would be better.
I would happily pay to see the Slartibartfast and Marvin road movie, should they decide to make one. They should.

Date: 2005-05-05 02:16 pm (UTC)That seems to be the general consensus of the reviews I've seen. Nobody has hated it, but very few have loved it. That said, it seems that those who don't have expectations from previous HHGttG experiences are more enthusiastic about it.
I haven't been to see it yet, and probably won't till it comes out on video. Doesn't seem worth the ticket price.

Date: 2005-05-05 05:25 pm (UTC)I actually cried at Marvin and awwwwed at the mice and thought Slartibartfast as Bill Nighy ( I mean Bill Nighy as SBF) was perfect and I thought SBF was irreplaceable.
It left me wanting dinner at the restaurant ATEOTU and I was willing the film not to stop although I knew it would.
When the original theme musci came on I nearly cried with pathos and thrill at seeing it there on the big screen.
