Well, I have to keep the splint on for another week full time, after which I can take it off for short but increasing periods, but must wear it at night for another 5 weeks or so. The doctor has told me he'll leave the decision up to me.

I can straighten the finger most of the way, but not completely, so I'll give it a little more time.

By crackey, it was nice having the splint off and to be able to move the finger in the open air if only for a few minutes.

How do you deal with washing? I used to sometimes take the splint off me broken pinkie in the bath and allow the finger to get clean (the dirt that rolled of when I dried it was shocking). It was bliss.

I have given up trying to keep the damned thing dry in the shower, so just shower as normal. I try a bit more when washing my hands, but if it gets wet, then so be it.

Every three days or so I take the splint off and keep the finger pressed against something to keep it straight while I wipe it with a wet wipe (and the inside of the splint, too). It is glorious to feel the air on the skin when the splint is off.

Next week I shall take the splint off for longer periods and use the finger a bit to strengthen the joint.

But I shall be glad when it's all done!
