This morning is a very pleasant spring morning indeed, or at least it was when I was outside the few minutes either side of my Tube journey into work. Looking out of the window now, it seems a little greyer and less sunny than I recall, but frankly, who cares? I’m indoors and that’s all outside.

We are approaching, but have still not quite reached “green day” – the day when then trees are predominantly green rather than predominantly brown/grey. I missed it last year, or rather I didn’t notice. For some reason I was preoccupied. Or maybe it happened at a weekend or something. I like green day; the colours are always fresher then and the greens brighter than any other day in the year. Particularly as summer advances and the greens get darker and more tired.

One thing that was greener today though, was Creepy Swedish Guy. Yes, I was a little late again this morning. Ho hum. Anyway, it must have been a good night at Troll Central. He is normally a grey/yellow colour. Today he was distinctly green. Too much starköl no doubt.

Sumer is ycomen in,
Loude sing cuckou!
Groweth seed and bloweth meed,
And springth the wode now.
Sing cuckou!

Meh...

We never get a green day, official or otherwise. Everything is a dusty-desert brown, then we get all that white crap, slip about, bump into things, and it gradually goes away and we're back to the desert-dusty browns.

Ho hum.

What's on the telly?

True, but the "cuckoo song" is all about spring. So why it mentions summer, I dunno.

Not a lot on telly!

It would drive me mad if the background colours to my corner of the world were orange-brown and not green! It's OK for a while, but I like the lush greens of the English countryside.

That's probably why I like Virgina, which I think is where I'd go if I lived in the States.

Agreed, and what can I expect if I will live in reclaimed desert? Still, it's less humid than Virginia in the "sumer" time.

Isn't that song supposed to be the oldest surviving notated song in the English language?

I watched the Errol Flynn "Adventures of Robin Hood" the other day, and the tune is featured in the soundtrack at one point. I don't know why they bothered trying to give it an air of authenticity when the rest of it is Hollywood nonsense. Still, it is the best Robin Hood film ever made, and excellent fun.

That reminds me of a short poem in a Jilly Cooper. I'm sure Furtle knows what I'm talking about.

A quick google rootle (gootle? roogle?) about on t'interweb seems to suggest that "sumer" in Middle Emglish probably covered a longer period than we currently use.

Or that's just some interlektual wiffling ...

I think we have reached Green Day today. What do you think? That is based on observations on the commute from Dunstable to Euston!

Damn!

I was too wrapped up in my own little world to notice. You could be right though, as I was thinking yesterday that we were on the tipping point!
