It's a bit quiet in the office today.

It turns out that one of the team leaders from the next section along on our floor was found dead at home by a colleague this morning. I didn't have any dealings with the chap myself, but you couldn't miss him - he was a large, loud chap who had a patent and cheerful disregard for the niceties of working in open plan.

As I say, I had no dealings with him, but the place is noticeably quieter without him and his immediate co-workers are understandably glum, he was quite a popular chap.

The really sad part is that he was only found today: not having been in the office yesterday and not having made contact, a colleague went round to see what was up and made the discovery. I have no details, but the insinuation is that he could have fallen ill on Friday evening after work (he could have been feeling under the weather at work, for all I know), but there was no one there to help or even notice until someone from the office took it upon themselves to check.

It can be a lonely old world.

THat's sad. I was just thinking before I got to the last bit 'how unlikely is it that a colleague would go into your house to look for you - that was lucky, if I can use that word'. Then again, I am not close to any colleague, but thinking back to my old job at the wine place, there were people there I would have looked in on had they vanished. Not sure at which point you'd actually break in etc - I'd probably just assume they'd gone away for a day or so.

Had a similar situation with a collegue some years back, he just went missing for a couple of days and then... no more. :-(

Certainly makes you give thanks for your own situation - well I do anyway. I would be found after a few hours because the last person out goes at 8.30 and someone is home by 5pm and if I don't answer a text at lunchtime I get a phone call and if I didn't answer that then Mr M would come home to make sure I am ok - see I am really very fortunate.
