Well, I'm back.

I've had a cup of coffee and warmed up so now I shall nip downstairs to watch ITV's new attempt at capturing the Doctor Who audience: Demons starring Philip (Gene Hunt) Glenister, with, if the trailers are to be believed, the most outrageous American accent ever attempted.

Maybe after all these years, it's payback for Dick Van Dyke.

I thought that was Jason Statham in every film not directed by Guy Richie (or is that Poorie after the divorce?)

Speaking of Doctors, your thoughts?

I am cautiously optimistic about Matt Smith as the Doctor. I have never been one of those who thinks that the Doctor should regenerate into a middle aged bloke - the whole point is rejuvenation, so a younger body makes more sense to me.

He certainly has an odd look to him too, which will help with his 'otherworldliness'. I assume the bloke is a competent actor as he will need to be able to handle the switch of mood from lunatic to deadly serious without any obvious seams.

I'm looking forward to seeing some of the early costume visuals.

Well it's not as if I hold high expectations, so it's not as if they'll be dashed with this news. I'm not sure that an actor this young will have the gravitas necessary.
Still, as you say, he does look alien.
